I'm Dr. Stephanie Reissner, and I have dedicated my professional life to supporting and advocating for children with special needs and their families. With nearly two decades of experience in the field of Special Education, my journey has been shaped by a deep passion for helping students reach their full potential and a commitment to empowering parents and educators with the tools they need to navigate the complex world of special education.
My Journey
My career began as a Special Education teacher, where I worked directly with students to support their learning and development. Through these years in the classroom, I saw firsthand the challenges that families face in securing appropriate services and accommodations for their children. This experience ignited my passion for advocacy and drove me to further my education and expertise.
I earned my doctorate with a focus on parent perceptions of the initial IEP process. My dissertation research revealed significant gaps in understanding and communication between parents and schools, reinforcing my desire to bridge these gaps and provide families with the support they need from outside the school system. This pivotal moment solidified my mission to become an advocate, guiding parents and educators through the intricacies of special education law and processes.
What I Do
Today, I specialize in helping families and educators understand and navigate the special education system. My proprietary methodology focuses on three core principles: Empowerment Through Knowledge, Skills for Success, and Strengthening Through Unity. Through my courses, workshops, and personalized advocacy services, I provide comprehensive guidance and practical strategies that empower my clients to become confident and effective advocates.
In addition to working directly with families, I am passionate about mentoring and supporting others who aspire to become advocates. There is a tremendous need for qualified, passionate, and knowledgeable advocates in the field of special education. Through my programs, I provide training and mentorship to those looking to transition into advocacy roles. By equipping future advocates with the skills and confidence they need, we can collectively create a larger impact and ensure that more children receive the support and services they deserve.
